“He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and fine linen, and weavers—all of them skilled workers and designers.” exodus 35:35

I’m a total weirdo when it comes to anything ’80s

but let’s be real, I’m also a weirdo about conspiracies and all things bizarre. 😆 But hey, at least this isn’t another “Weird Wednesday” post! Nope, today I’m bringing a little ’80s nostalgia into my home decor. let’s diy macrame wall art: easy 80’s inspired decor on a budget.

Growing up in the ’80s, my mom had our house decked out with macramé and brass, basically boho chic before it was cool. Macramé instantly takes me back to my childhood, and honestly—who doesn’t love a little weird texture in their decor? Check this out!

I came across some canvas macramé pieces on West Elm’s site

and thought they were super fun! They weren’t crazy expensive, but I couldn’t help but wonder… Could I DIY something similar? Then, as if fate stepped in, I found a bag of assorted macramé cords at a local consignment shop for only $5. Clearly, it was meant to be! Check this out!

I also had an old DIY plaster art piece

from a couple of years ago, just sitting in my closet collecting dust. So, I decided to repurpose it into my macramé masterpiece.

Now, full disclosure: I have never actually macramé’d anything before. This was definitely going to be a challenge. But after studying my inspo piece, I realized I could mimic the patterns and textures using my cords and (you guessed it) a hot glue gun.

If you’re a hot glue gun wizard, this project should be a breeze. My biggest challenge? Not getting glue everywhere… or burning my fingerprints off. 😅

For only the cost of the macrame cord ($5) and the hot glue sticks, i’ve got an 80’s-inspired macrame piece of art that makes me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside!

Ready to see how it turned out? Let’s do this!

ta-da!

what do you think? is this something you’d do and if so, let me know if you’d like for me to do a step, by step tutorial!
