More than just a dream: Exploring the Bizarre truth about dreams

Dreams—everybody has them, yet few are truly curious about them. How many times have we woken from a deep sleep amazed, confused, or even horrified by what our minds created while we were resting?

Our bodies are an incredible design of the Lord. Not only do they instinctively know how to restore themselves through sleep, but our minds keep us entertained in the process. While we rest, they begin painting wild images and stories—and we’re often told they’re meaningless.

now It’s time to get weird.

Because the Bible actually points to dreams as more than a replay of our day. They are a supernatural line of communication—a heavenly hotline, if you will. But they’re complex, and not for the skeptical.

Here’s the truth: while science often explains dreams purely through a natural lens (hence the skepticism), Scripture points us in the opposite direction.

According to the Bible, dreams can serve as a way God communicates truth, warning, encouragement, or direction to His people. In Scripture, the Lord uses dreams to mirror real-life situations so we can grasp His message (Genesis 37; Matthew 2:12). This is often why we explain them away—because they resemble our circumstances, we assume it’s just our brain processing events. And sometimes, that is true. But many times, dreams are the easiest way God reaches us—when we’re finally forced to be still.

Heavenly Hotline, Learn who's calling.
Mirrors in scripture represent self awareness and possible change.

Yet not every dream is divine. The Bible shows that dreams may come from God, from our own thoughts (Ecclesiastes 5:3), or even as deception from the enemy (Jeremiah 23:25–27). This is why we’re called to test them against God’s Word. True interpretation does not come from human imagination alone—“Do not interpretations belong to God?”(Genesis 40:8). When a dream is from Him, it will align with Scripture, glorify God, and draw us closer to truth. Prayer, humility, and biblical discernment are essential in understanding what a dream means—and whether it carries spiritual weight at all.

For me, I’ve always been a dreamer. But it wasn’t until a few years ago, when I became curious about what Scripture says regarding dreams, that I began paying attention. Over time, I’ve received direction from God’s voice in my dreams, heeded warnings, and learned through His instruction in the dream state.
