Exposing Witchcraft: When Control Isn’t Just a Personality Trait
•
“The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.”–Galatians 5:19–21
Exposing Witchcraft: When Control Isn’t Just a Personality Trait
I went through a season where the Lord allowed me to experience the influence of witchcraft firsthand. If you haven’t read my full testimony, I encourage you to—it gives deeper insight into what I walked through and how God used it to wake me up. In this Weird Wednesday post, I want to blow the whistle on witchcraft, modern witches, and the power of discernment—because let me tell you, they don’t always look like what you’d expect.

During that time, I worked with several people who practiced witchcraft in different ways. One was open about the occult, others swore by crystals and “energies” for health and happiness, and some dabbled in darker stuff behind closed doors. At the same time, I was attending a church that, while loving, avoided talking about sin or spiritual warfare. Everything was about “love”—which is biblical, yes—but also became a cover for avoiding confrontation or truth. That left me vulnerable, confused, and spiritually dull.
But God doesn’t leave us there.
He used that season to open my eyes to how much witchcraft had already crept into my own life—not through rituals or spells, but through control. That’s right. I was shocked to learn that controlling others, manipulating outcomes, or trying to dominate situations in our own strength is considered a form of witchcraft in Scripture (1 Samuel 15:23). And I had been guilty of it.
Witchcraft isn’t always cloaked in candles and capes. Sometimes, it’s in ambition, influence, fear, rebellion, or obsession with “manifesting” outcomes. Sometimes, it’s even dressed up in spiritual lingo like “God told me…”—when it wasn’t God at all.
I used to think witches were rare, hiding in forests or on Halloween—but I was wrong. Many trendy health, fashion, and “spiritual” movements carry practices rooted in the occult. Just because someone says “God” doesn’t mean they serve the God of Scripture.
So what is witchcraft really?
What the World Says

In secular terms, witchcraft is often seen as a harmless or empowering spiritual practice—rooted in nature, tradition, or personal energy work. It includes herbalism, divination, and rituals. It sounds innocent. Enlightened, even.
What the Bible Says

Scripture tells a different story.
Galatians 5:19–21 lists witchcraft (or “sorcery”) alongside idolatry, immorality, and hatred—stating clearly that “those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”
To God, it’s an abomination. No matter how innocent it seems.
I asked ChatGPT to help me research, and surprisingly, it came up with 29 forms of witchcraft. Many of these I had never heard of before, and some, I realized I had unknowingly entertained.
Here’s a Preview of the Series:

Over the next few weeks, I’ll break down some of the more popular or sneaky forms of witchcraft and why they’re spiritually (and physically) dangerous.
We’ll look at:
- Shamanism
- Tarot Reading
- Astrology
- Numerology
- Palmistry
- Curses & Hexes
- Demonology
- Astral Projection
- Automatic Writing
- Ouija Boards
- And yes… the “Boss Babe” mentality too
Stay tuned as we pull back the veil and let Scripture shine light on these practices. Because when you know the truth—you’re no longer deceived. Check out some of my other Weird wednesday posts!
