Letting Go of the Past: Your Identity in Christ
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.“ – 2 Corinthians 5:17 (scripture highlight color)
Letting Go of the Past: Your Identity in Christ
“When the Lord began my repurposing journey, He started revealing the truth about how I saw myself. For years, I had lived as the person I thought I was supposed to be, finding my identity in that version of myself. But in reality, that wasn’t who God created me to be. When that truth finally clicked, letting go of the past and embracing my true identity in Christ became my greatest priority.”
At some point, we’ve all struggled with identity—
wondering who we are, if we are enough, or if our past defines us. The world constantly tries to tell us who we should be, measuring our worth by achievements, appearances, or approval. But these shifting identities leave us exhausted, always striving yet never satisfied.
The truth is, our identity isn’t something we achieve—it’s something we receive. Through Christ, we are reconciled to God, restored to who we were always meant to be. The broken pieces of our past no longer define us; our failures don’t get the final say. When we surrender to Christ, we are made new—fully loved, fully known, and fully redeemed.
If you’ve been wrestling with insecurity or feeling lost, remember: Your identity isn’t in your mistakes, your status, or your struggles. You are a child of God, created with purpose, and made whole in Him.
Reflection:
- In what areas have you let the world define your identity?
- How can you remind yourself daily that your worth is found in Christ?
Prayer:
Lord, remind me that my identity is in You alone. Help me let go of the labels the world has placed on me and walk confidently as Your new creation. Thank You for reconciling me to Yourself and restoring my purpose. Amen.
