old school vibes

If you take a look at the history of designer bags, you’ll notice that the logos and designs have stayed surprisingly consistent over the decades. That’s one of the reasons I love redesigning and repurposing vintage pieces — they’re timeless, but with a little creativity, you can give them a whole new life. Turning them into modern looking pieces. This is how i Recrafted a vintage Gucci clutch into a modern shoulder bag. This is where Old Money Meets New Mood!

Inspiration

I kicked off this project by browsing online for a few bags that caught my eye. Once I had some solid inspo pics, I started the hunt for a vintage bag with similar structure and style.

It’s all in the details

Because I wanted this bag to feel authentic while still giving off current vibes, I chose to incorporate vintage, authentic Gucci pieces — like buttons for the logo. Although I wasn’t able to source authentic Gucci straps, I’m very particular about hardware and design, so I carefully selected pieces that closely reflect Gucci’s original aesthetic. After some digging, I found several high-quality strap options that complemented the bag perfectly.

Versatility is king

Since I’m pretty particular about the look and feel of the hardware on my designer bags, I chose gold grommets to complement and elevate the overall aesthetic.

I added gold grommets that fit the quality and esthetic of Gucci’s designs. This also adds a level of versatility to the bag allowing me to change out the steps.

Being able to change up the straps gives the bag a different feel. This look gives off a more casual vibe.

The Final look

One of the things I love most about this bag is that I didn’t have to spend thousands to get the look. Instead, I got to be creative, turn an “authentic” vintage find into something totally unique, and the result is a one-of-a-kind piece that people always notice. Every time I wear it, I get compliments—and when someone asks where I got it, I get to smile and say, “It’s a custom Gucci.”
