They were definitely outdated, but the bones were solid. Still, I wasn’t sure if they were a smart buy. I stood there debating, completely torn. So I did what any thrifter does—I snapped a few pics and texted my husband.

Here’s what I did:

I asked ChatGPT to visualize the chairs with black-dyed leather and matte black metal legs.

Then, I took it a step further—I asked ChatGPT to place the finished look into a styled setting so I could better imagine the final result. I used keywords like “dark academia,” “mid-century,” and “wabi-sabi” to match the aesthetic I had in mind.

Utilizing google searches

After AI generated an image of my redesigned chair, I did a quick Google search for similar styles and inspiration pieces. That’s when I stumbled on a stunning—though insanely expensive—chair with a similar color and design. doing this can also help get your creative juices flowing if you happen to find a piece you like while thrifting.

A few days later, I went back to check if they still available, but unfortunately, the chairs had already sold. Still, I’m holding out hope that I’ll find the perfect pair for my husband’s office. And next time, I’m bringing ChatGPT along for backup. Check out more of my diy posts!
