PAINTING ON THRIFTED CANVAS
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”– EPHESIANS 2:10
FROM THRIFTED TO COMMISSIONED
If you’ve got an old canvas or framed artwork collecting dust—or you’re about to toss something that’s no longer your style—hold up! Don’t trash it, especially if it’s large. A blank canvas that size can run you upwards of $50, and that’s before you even pick up a paintbrush.

As someone who creates a lot of my own artwork, I’ve learned to keep a stash of thrifted canvases, old frames, and even a few outdated prints. They’re perfect for repurposing into something completely new. I’M GOING TO SHOW YOU HOW I TOOK A LARGE CANVAS FROM THRIFTED TO COMMISSIONED!
MY COMMISSIONED PIECE
A few weeks ago, I finished a commissioned piece for a client who had a tight budget, so instead of starting from scratch, I hit up my favorite thrift store. I scored a large canvas print for next to nothing, painted over it, and created something brand new and totally custom. Let me show you how a little creativity (and a lot of primer) brought this project to life.

WHAT DO YOU THINK? WOULD YOU TAKE A THRIFTED CANVAS PIECE TO CREATE SOMETHING NEW?
