When the to-do list becomes the undo list, your peace, priorities, and purpose suffer. Discover how reordering your life around God first can restore balance, clarity, and calm.

God never designed us to live in a constant state of chaos. In fact, 1 Corinthians 14:33 reminds us that “God is not a God of confusion but of peace.” When our lives feel overwhelming and disordered, it’s often a sign that something is misaligned spiritually. As believers, we’re called to walk in step with the Spirit (Galatians 5:25), not race through life on autopilot. Recognizing the presence of chaos is the first step toward inviting God’s peace back in.

A girl i used to know

I once knew a girl who had so much going on, she couldn’t tell up from down. Her career demanded long hours—sometimes keeping her at work late into the night—and clients would call or text her around the clock. Because of that, she never truly felt present in the moment.

She often said her life felt like a mess. there were seasons where She was constantly replacing lost items, important dates missed or overlooked, and leaving “less important” projects unfinished was an acceptable habit. she barely had any time left for those outside her daily routine, so some of her relationships suffered. Even when something seemed to be going well, it wouldn’t be long before the bottom dropped out and everything turned sour. That girl? well that was me before god helped me reorder my to-do list.

The powerful shift that brought peace to my home, heart, and family

When the To-Do List Becomes the Undo List
When the To-Do List Becomes the Undo List

Let’s be real: being a woman in today’s world is a lot.

You’re expected to juggle a job (or two), keep the house in order, make sure the kids have everything they need, stay emotionally available for your husband, and oh—squeeze in time with God before you pass out at night.

No wonder we’re exhausted.

For years, I ran myself ragged trying to keep up with everything. I had a to-do list that never quit. I was “checking all the boxes,” yet somehow, everything in my life felt slightly… off. Messy. Chaotic. Unsettled.

I couldn’t figure out why. the only common denominator was the fuzzy number “11”. (i’ll cover this in the next weird wednesday post or check out my testimony for more)

Until one day, I realized that it wasn’t my list that was the problem.
It was the order of it. When the To-Do List Becomes the Undo List.

The Danger of an Out-of-Order Life

When the To-Do List Becomes the Undo List
Seek First the Kingdom of God

See, I had a heart that loved God. I believed in Him. But if I’m honest?
He came last on my list.

I made sure the house looked “picked up”, the kids were cared for, my husband had what he needed, and I squeezed in some time for God if there was anything left.

And that’s when I saw it: the disorder in my life wasn’t just physical — it was spiritual.

It’s not that I wasn’t accomplishing things. I was.
But everything felt like it came at a cost. Peace was fleeting. Conflict was constant. Something always felt like it was falling apart.

That’s because God wasn’t first.
And when God isn’t first — something always has to give.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
— Matthew 6:33 (ESV)

Order Matters More Than You Think

Let me say something that might sting a little:
You can’t put your kids before your husband and expect a thriving marriage.
You can’t put your home before your calling and expect fulfillment.
You definitely can’t put God last and expect Him to bless what you’re building.

It’s not about performance — it’s about priority.

“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.”
— Psalm 127:1 (ESV)

I lived in vain labor for years. i had spent years building a thriving business- that towards the end, felt like a hamster wheel. I was building, organizing, achieving — but it never felt secure. That’s because I was trying to manage spiritual blessings with human strength.

Blessings Don’t Work on Our Terms

I used to think that because I was doing good things — loving my family, serving people, staying productive — I was walking in God’s favor.

But here’s the truth I had to face:
You can’t call something a blessing from God and then withhold it from Him.

If we truly believe our children, marriage, home, and career are gifts from the Lord — why do we think we can steward them apart from Him?

“Every good and perfect gift is from above…”
— James 1:17 (NIV)

If we won’t give back to the Giver, we’re essentially admitting that the gift matters more than the relationship — and that’s a dangerous game to play.

Cause and Effect Is a Kingdom Principle

Just like cause and effect is a law in the natural — it’s also a spiritual truth.
When we put God first, we activate a spiritual order that invites peace, clarity, and power into our lives.

“In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”
— Proverbs 3:6 (ESV)

God isn’t a slot machine. He’s not waiting for us to hit the right sequence to release favor. But when we align with His design, things click. Peace comes. Conflict lessens. Vision returns.

It’s Not Magic — It’s Movement

Now let me be clear:
Putting God first doesn’t mean your life instantly becomes Pinterest-perfect.
But it does mean the Spirit begins to move in your home, your marriage, your work, and your heart.

But even that isn’t enough.

We can’t just say, “God, you’re first,” and go back to business as usual.
We have to walk in that declaration.
That means appropriating the Word. Acting on it. Living it out.

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
— James 1:22 (ESV)

How to Reorder Your Life (Without Shame or Guilt)

  1. Start your day with God – even 10 minutes changes the tone.
  2. Invite Him into your plans – not just problems.
  3. Align your list with His values – ask, what matters to You, Lord?
  4. Give Him your best, not leftovers – time, energy, and trust.

Final Thought

If your life feels chaotic…
If your efforts feel unseen…
If your marriage feels strained and your soul feels dry…

You’re not broken. You’re just out of order.

Put God first — not to earn blessings, but to receive them properly.
You won’t regret it. I promise.

Short Prayer: Putting God First

Lord,

I’ve spent too long trying to manage everything on my own.
Forgive me for putting You last when You should’ve been first.

Help me reorder my life in a way that honors You —
with my time, my heart, my family, and my work.

Teach me to seek You first, not just in words, but in action.
Bring peace where there’s been chaos, and purpose where there’s been pressure.

You are my foundation.
Lead me as I put You back in Your rightful place.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”
— Proverbs 3:6
