Heavenly Hotline, Learn Who’s calling?

“Have you ever woken up from a dream and wondered if God was trying to tell you something? sometimes Dreams can feel like a Heavenly Hotline—But who’s calling?

Today in Heavenly Hotline, Learn Who’s calling, i’m going to go over how to diy your dreams, DISCERN who they’re from and learn to interpret them with a few simple steps.

I’ve had my fair share of vivid dreams, and let me tell you, some of them have really caught my attention.

One dream, in particular, left a mark on me for years and has recently come into clearer focus as I walked through a difficult season. The dream involved a spider, a black arrow, and—of all places—my childhood home. talk about weird.

But here’s where it gets interesting: because this dream was filled with so many layers of symbolism, i could have easily brushed this off as a strange, subconscious dream. I mean, sure i have a fear of spiders, and there’s nothing more disturbing than finding yourself encountering black arrows aimed directly at you however, this particular dream stayed with me.

it wasn’t just a random, spooky encounter. It was a spiritual warning and a foreshadowing of what I was about to face. It’s amazing how God can use something as strange as a spider bite to speak directly to us!

Let me walk you through it.

The Dream: The Spider, the Arrow, and the Mirror

Heavenly Hotline: Who's calling?
My dream about sweeping cobwebs in my entryway and getting bitten by a black spider.

A few years ago, I dreamt I was standing in the entryway of my home, cleaning a spiderweb off the ceiling. Not a big deal, right? But things took a strange turn. As I brushed the web away, I noticed a long, web dangling from the broom with a black spider at the end. Before I could even drop the broom, the spider swung down and bit me right on the neck.

Panicked, I rushed to a mirror to inspect the bite and noticed something that looked like a stinger sticking out of my neck. I tried to pull it out, but the more I pulled, the longer it became, until I revealed a jet-black arrow. Weird, right? But stay with me—this wasn’t just about an odd dream. It was packed with meaning.

Breaking Down the Dream: Understanding the Source

If you’ve read some of my other posts on dream interpretation, you’ll know I believe that dreams can come from a variety of sources: God, the enemy, or our own subconscious mind (for more info read here). But how do we distinguish between the three?

I like to start eliminating with the subconscious mind. If the dream is layered with strange symbols and feels too weird (like this one!), then it’s probably not just your mind working out the stress of the day. If your dream brings fear, or anxiety (nightmares) also probably not a subconscious dream. This is when you need to start discerning, who exactly is calling.

In my case, this dream wasn’t just a random string of symbols; it was a message. So, let’s break it down.

the Spider,

Diy your dreams with dream interpretation
The black spider in my dream

In scripture spiders are often seen in dreams as symbols of fear (Luke 10:19, 2 Timothy 1:7), entrapment(Psalm 140:5 –) & spiritual bondage(Isaiah 59:5-6), or deceit(Job 8:14-15). The “black” color was a good indicator of it’s negative connotation.

The spider bitting me and embedding an arrow in my neck,

was a warning of the fear the enemy would try to plant in me, again.

arrows

in scripture represent the enemy firing targets at a persons life. (ephesians 6:16)

my fear or “arrow” was connected to a deep-rooted insecurity I had struggled with since childhood. the fear of being sick and the fear of dying young. As a kid, this fear plagued me because I doubted who I was in Christ and struggled with health issues.

The neck,

in scripture represents bondage, STUBBORNNESS, rebellion, spiritual attack and vulnerability. in my case, all of these were true. because of rebellion to god’s promises(i already knew god’s truths, but wasn’t actively appropriating them). This caused me to become stubborn to my sin of fear. this in turn kept me in bondage making me vulnerable for the enemy to attack me again and again. (Matthew 11:29, Jeremiah 19:15, Isaiah 10:27, Psalm 140:3)

Fast forward to a little over a year ago,

and I began to experience health struggles that led me back into those same fears.

I saw multiple doctors, convinced I was dying, and the enemy used that fear to cause doubt in God’s promises and love for me. The dream, though, was God showing me the victory before I even stepped into the battle. I wasn’t just pulling out an arrow; I was pulling out the fear and deception that the enemy tried to plant in my life.

Now, here’s where it gets even more interesting. When I rushed to the mirror,

Heavenly Hotline: Who's calling?
Mirrors in scripture represent self awareness and possible change.

I found myself in my parents’ bathroom—the very place I had grown up. Why? Well, I believe it’s because God was taking me back to the root of those old fears. Although i was about to enter a spiritual battle where The enemy was attempting to entrap me again with an old strong hold, God was using this to say, “Remember that childhood fear? It’s not yours to carry anymore. I’m healing you.”

The mirror represented self awareness and reflection—a chance to look back at where the fear began, what’s holding me captive, but also a reminder that the work God is doing is in the present. I was in my parents’ bathroom pulling out the arrow, and now, I could do the same in real life by recognizing the lies the enemy was trying to plant in my mind and uprooting them with God’s truth.

Truth is, We don’t have to be blinded by our own strongholds anymore, Jesus came to set the captives free! (Luke 4:18, Isaiah 61:1)

When interpreting dreams, Above all else, ask the holy spirit to give you clarity and discernment

No matter where a dream comes from—your mind, God, or the enemy—how you interpret it matters. Trusting God and His Word is the first step to finding the truth. ‘But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you’ John 14:26

So how do you know if your dream is from God, the enemy, or just your subconscious mind? Here are some tips to help you out:

It’s probably your subconscious:

  • you dream of everyday things you’re currently going through
  • There’s nothing strange or symbolic in the dream

The enemy:

  • Your dream brings you fear, anxiety, and deception
  • It contradicts Gods word or twists his truths

God:

  • The dream is weird.
  • Layered with symbolism
  • Is instructional or a possible warning
  • and doesn’t bring fear and anxiety

Although I panicked for a moment when the spider bit my neck, it didn’t bring me fear or anxiety. The feeling was negative, but overall, it felt more matter-of-fact than fearful.

If you’ve determined that your dream is from your own SUBCONScIous-

Heavenly Hotline: Who's calling?
Dreams can come from the subconscious, but only true discernment comes with prayer.

Pray over it. There have been so many times when I brushed off a dream, thinking it was just random, only to later realize I had completely forgotten key details—until the Holy Spirit brought them back to mind through prayer.

I also believe the enemy works overtime to steal memories of important symbols in dreams, hoping to keep us from recognizing the truth. And here’s where it gets dangerous—when we buy into the deception (for example, assuming a dream is just subconscious noise), we risk losing focus on the real message.

Even worse, if we continually dismiss God’s warnings or revelations, we can unknowingly come into agreement with the enemy’s lies. And when that happens too often, it can open the door for the enemy to gain a foothold in our lives—even to the point of interfering with our destiny.

This is a deep topic, so I’ll have to unpack it in another post! Stay tuned.

If your dream is from the enemy-

  1. don’t ignore it!
  2. Pray that the Holy Spirit brings you revelation.
  3. Renounce any plans the enemy has for you.
  4. Plead the blood of Jesus over your dream.
  5. put the full armor of god on, daily.

Here’s a simple truth: The enemy needs your agreement for his plans to succeed. Without it, he has no authority over you. this is why immediate renouncing of the dream is important.

Over time, the enemy’s lies can create a false belief in us. If we are not filling our minds up with God’s truth, Then we are vulnerable to believing Satan’s lies. in turn, coming into agreement with his plan.

This is why staying in scripture is so important.

Fact is, We will never know we’re being deceived if we don’t ever know the truth!

Many Christians don’t realize nightmares often mean they’re in a spiritual battle. They ignore them, assuming being a Christian is all they need to keep them protected.

However, Scripture shows that’s not enough in spiritual warfare. Many grow complacent, assuming protection without ever actively standing against the enemy.

We’re commanded to “put on” God’s armor daily. It doesn’t say we’re already wearing it, meaning this requires a conscious decision.

The enemy works through emotions,

like fear and anxiety, to keep us bound. Many mistake this for natural fear rather than warfare.

Nightmares often indicate the enemy is trying to instill fear. Renouncing fear and anxiety aligns you with God’s word, not Satan’s lies.

Scripture is clear: The adversary prowls like a roaring lion, seeking to devour. He is a thief trying to steal from God’s people. unfortunately, so many believers have had their peace, joy and even their destinies stolen from them, all because they never appropriated the truth. (1 Peter 5:8, Hosea 4:6)

When God gives you a dream,

it is always up to the Holy spirit to show you revelation.

  1. So bring it to him first in prayer.
  2. write it down in detail, as if you’re writing a story.
  3. underline all of the “weird” things in your dream. (ex: Me sweeping up cob webs, spider bite, looking in the mirror, and an arrow in the neck)
  4. Go to scripture for the answers.

Just like in my dream, most of the time there will be layers to it.

There were times I didn’t get immediate discernment, but understanding came over time. Other times, I grasped the general meaning right away, but the Holy Spirit later revealed deeper layers. Trust Him and His timing.

look at dreams as riddles or puzzles. (Numbers 12:6-8, Proverbs 25:2, Matthew 13:10-11, Psalm 78:2, Job 33:14-16) This is why symbols and details matter when it comes to dream interpretation.

For example, in my dream, I looked up scriptures about spiders, mirrors, arrows, necks, and brooms. From there, I began to piece together the dream’s full meaning.

Victory in His Promises

When I woke up from that dream, I knew God had given me a warning. it wasn’t until later that god showed me that the real root to my problem, fear.

Although god warned me that the enemy was going to attack, god was walking me through it, continuously bringing my dream to memory. He began to peel back the layers in real time.

He was showing me that I wasn’t to be ruled by fear anymore. I was to take hold of His promises, fight against the enemy’s lies, and walk in victory. The fact that I pulled out the arrow—literally and spiritually—was a reminder that God’s promises were already my victory before the battle even began.

I hope Heavenly hotline, learn who’s calling has been an encouragement to you: whatever you’re facing, God has already given you victory. The enemy may try to deceive you, just as he did in my dream, but God is faithful. We don’t fight the battle alone—He’s already won it for us. So next time you have a dream, don’t just write it off. Take time to discern its source, break it down according to Scripture, and remember that God’s truth will always lead you into victory.
