Here’s how to creATE dreamy, wanderlust-inspired home decor on a budget
— DIY Like a 70s Nomad: Moroccan Rug Pillows on a Dime. AND WHEN I SAY “ON A DIME”, I MEAN I LITERALLY SPENT A WHOLE $6.25 ON ONE CUSTOM PILLOW! THIS PROJECT IS SO EASY, ANYONE CAN DO IT!
Ever since I can remember, I’ve been drawn to the fashion and decor of the 70s and 80s.
And no, I’m not talking about the burnt orange countertops or mustard yellow macramé (though honestly, even those are making a comeback). I’m talking about the cool stuff—boho layers, Moroccan rugs, Turkish textiles, and all the dreamy, nomadic vibes. The only problem? If you try to deck out your space with those global treasures, you’ll be shelling out some serious cash.
Of course, you can find lookalike treasures at places like West Elm, Etsy, and even Amazon. But even then, you’re looking at $100 or more just for a pair of Turkish-inspired pillow covers! IF YOU’VE READ ANY OF MY OTHER POSTS, YOU KNOW I LOVE REPURPOSING ITEMS TO CREATE MY OWN CUSTOM DECOR. SO HERE’S HOW I GOT THE SAME LOOK FOR LESS THAN $20!

Here’s a little trick—if you already own or happen to thrift a small vintage Turkish rug, you can transform it into stunning, one-of-a-kind home decor. But if not, YOU CAN DO LIKE ME, a good faux version works just as well!

I made two pillow covers out of this TRACEY BOYD EVAN rug from at home (now on sale) FOR $12.49
I decided to use an old curtain as the back side of my pillows

Once i finished cutting, i decided to hot glue the rug and the curtain material together TO FORM THE COVERS

FOR ONLY $6.25 A PILLOW, I LOVE MY 70’S INSPIRED, MOROCCAN STYLE PILLOWS! SUPER EASY, DURABLE AND OH SO BOHO!

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS PROJECT? WOULD YOU TRY THIS YOURSELF?
