Colliding with the Unknown

  • Colliding with the Unknown

Science constantly searches for answers. Institutions like CERN probe the unseen, smashing particles together to uncover what holds the universe together. Their discoveries fascinate, but they also raise questions—how far should humanity go? Are we seeking knowledge that draws us closer to God, or chasing mysteries we aren’t meant to understand? Are we colliding with the unknown?

Today’s buzzword is consciousness—the idea that more knowledge brings a better grasp of reality. While there’s truth in that, as followers of Christ, we must walk in discernment. Not everything is meant for us to understand.

Scripture must be our lens when we evaluate new theories and discoveries. Every idea should be filtered through the question: What does God’s Word say about this? Ecclesiastes 1:9-10 reminds us, “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” Though we often view Scripture as ancient, human nature, societal pressures, and cultural struggles remain the same. If we’re facing it now, they likely faced it then. Truth is, when we filter knowledge through God’s wisdom, we walk in discernment.

Many scholars believe history is a cycle, repeating itself in different forms. Ancient societies faced political turmoil, social upheaval, and even technological advancements (Genesis 6:14-16). The Bible suggests that knowledge and innovation existed far beyond what we assume. Daniel 12:4 warns that in the last days, knowledge will increase—and we’re seeing that unfold rapidly. But knowledge without wisdom is dangerous. While scientists search for the "God particle," they may be missing the true answer—Jesus, the One in whom all things hold together (Colossians 1:17).

Curiosity isn’t wrong—God created us to seek truth! But faith must always be our foundation. When discoveries challenge our beliefs, we don’t have to fear. God isn’t surprised by any breakthrough. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.

Instead of being shaken by what the world reveals, let’s stand firm on what God has already revealed. His Word is the ultimate truth—no human discovery will ever change that.

Reflection Questions:
🔹 Do new scientific discoveries ever shake your faith?
🔹 How can you balance curiosity with trust in God?
🔹 What does it mean for you to believe that Jesus holds all things together?

Prayer:
Lord, You are the Creator of all things, and nothing is hidden from You. When the world presents new ideas, help me discern truth through Your Word. Give me wisdom to seek knowledge that glorifies You, not knowledge that leads me away from faith. I trust that You hold all things together. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
